Junghwa Lee
Described as a Gayageum musician with rich emotions and flawless techniques, Junghwa Lee, born in Seoul, Korea, fell in love with Gayageum at the age of 9 when she heard the instrument played in her school by a musician, who became her first instructor later. Since then she studied Gayaguem in Sun Hwa Art School, Korean Traditional Music National High School and Hanyang University for her Bachelor and Master diploma.
Junghwa's music and technique has been recognized from her early years winning 1st prizes of Nangye Traditional Korean Music Contest-High school division, Dong-A Traditional Korean Music Contest and Korean National Traditional Music Competition.
Junghwa was a member of Kyounggi Korean Music Orchestra and performed various recitals and concerts. She played as a soloist in Japan for Korea-Japan Cultural Exchange Joint Concert, Hanyang Traditional Music Festival and opening concert of Yeak-dang concert hall, the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts. Her ensemble appearance is highlighted with Geumyul Musical Association and 2000 Traditional Music Composing Festival. In 2002, Junghwa had her last recital in Korea with the Invitational concert at the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts and moved to United States for introducing her music to the Western world as well as experiments of cross-over Gayageum with Western music.
She performed as a guest soloist at Wright State University/Community Orchestra concert (Conducted by Dr. In-Hong Cha) to play 'Saebom' for Gayageum and Orchestra by Byounggi Hwang in 2006 and has performed in several events around Arizona, Ohio, Chicago, Indiana and New York.
She also devote her talent in Christian worship to praise God. Since 2013, she started 'Music Revival' to share her confession and praising in churches.
Currently she is focused to promote and foster an appreciation of Korean Traditional Music as well as spread God's love with her Gayaguem songs in America. She is based in the area of metropolitan LA(Los Angeles), California, USA
